Code of Conduct
All athletes, coaches, and parents representing Cherry Creek High School Water Polo are expected to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship, respect, and integrity. Participation in this program is a privilege, and maintaining a positive team environment is essential to our success.
1. Respect for Teammates, Coaches, and Officials
Athletes must treat all teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, and spectators with courtesy and professionalism at all times. Disrespectful behavior, arguing with officials, or unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated; nor will inappropriate, vulgar, or obscene language.
2. Commitment and Effort
Athletes are expected to attend practices on time, work hard, listen to instruction, and contribute positively to team culture. Effort and attitude matter as much as performance.
It is not the athlete's job to correct or discipline teammates. Leave this to the coaches, and maintain a positive, supportive attitude toward your teammates.
3. Safety and Responsibility
Athletes must follow all pool rules, use equipment appropriately, and maintain behavior that supports a safe training environment. Horseplay or actions that put others at risk are prohibited.
Water Polo is a contact sport. Tempers can flare, and forceful contact can occur during practice and competition. Physical or verbal retaliation is not acceptable and may be grounds for disciplinary action during games or practice.
4. Anti‑Bullying & Team Inclusion
Bullying, harassment, intimidation, hazing, or exclusion of any kind—whether verbal, physical, digital, or social—is strictly prohibited. Every athlete has the right to feel safe, supported, and included. Any bullying behavior will result in immediate review and disciplinary action, which may include suspension or removal from the program.
5. Representation of the Club
Athletes represent Cherry Creek High School Water Polo Club both in and out of the pool. Conduct on social media, at school, and at events should reflect positively on the team and Creek Polo Inc.
6. Parent & Spectator Expectations
Parents and spectators must model respect, support coaches, and refrain from negative comments toward athletes, officials, or other teams. Parents agree to follow spectator guidelines outlined at cohswp.org and usawaterpolo.org.
7. Accountability
Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in warnings, suspension from activities, or removal from the program, depending on severity.
8. Compliance with Governing Rules
Athletes agree to follow all rules, regulations, and policies published by the Colorado High School Water Polo Association (cohswp.org) and USA Water Polo (usawaterpolo.org). This includes competition rules, conduct expectations, eligibility requirements, and any updates issued by these governing bodies.
9. Safe Sport Requirements and Reporting
Athletes who are 18 years of age or older agree that they have completed the USA Water Polo Safe Sport Athlete Training as required for participation. Athletes who turn 18 during the season agree to complete said training prior to their 18th birthday.
All athletes, coaches, and parents must uphold Safe Sport standards at all times. Deck changing is a Safe Sport violation and is strictly prohibited at all practices, games, and tournaments.
Any conduct or contact that violates Safe Sport rules—whether experienced personally or witnessed—should be reported immediately to a coach, referee, or COHSWPA board member. Reported or observed violations will be forwarded to the USA Water Polo Safe Sport Office for review and possible action.
